What Batu Bolong is really like

Batu Bolong is where we run most beginner lessons and it is the break we know best. The wave is long and rolls in slowly, which gives you time to find your feet, get the pop-up timing and ride a wave all the way to the inside.

It is a forgiving spot rather than a powerful one. That is exactly what you want when you are learning: enough push to stand up, not so much that a wipeout is intimidating. We pick the peak and the time of day around your level and the tide.

Because it is the social centre of Canggu surfing, it does get crowded. We treat lineup etiquette as part of the lesson so you learn to share waves safely from day one.

Batu Bolong Beach is the Canggu base. It is a short scooter or taxi ride from anywhere in Canggu. We send the exact meeting point when you book.
