Why a lesson

Up faster with the brothers

Most of our beginners ride their first wave inside one session. Teaching yourself takes weeks of frustration, and a lot of saltwater.

Meet the brothers

Viccy & Drew

Viccy was born in Nias and has surfed his whole life. He's head coach and a working lifeguard. Drew keeps the crew laughing and looked after on the beach. Together since 2017, they've built Viccy Drew Surf on one idea: leave the water a better surfer and a new friend.

“Friends for life. That's the whole vibe.”

Reviews

Stoked students

Word of mouth is how we grow. Here's a taste, and there's plenty more on Google and Tripadvisor.

Stood up on my very first wave thanks to Viccy. So patient and encouraging. I booked three more sessions on the spot.

Hannah · Australia · Tripadvisor

The brothers make you feel like family. Best two hours of our whole Bali trip, hands down.

Lucas · Germany · Google

Nervous beginner here, and they kept me totally safe and I was catching my own waves by the end. Friends for life, exactly like they say.

Mei · Singapore · Tripadvisor

Did the multi-day package. Genuine progression every session and a lot of laughs. Can't recommend Viccy Drew enough.

Tom & Ellie · United Kingdom · Google

Local knowledge is unreal. Viccy grew up surfing and it shows. He reads the ocean and keeps everyone smiling.

Sofia · Brazil · Tripadvisor

Came back the next year and went straight back to them. That tells you everything.

FAQ

Common questions

Everything beginners ask us before booking. Still unsure? Message us, we are quick to reply.

Do I need any surfing experience?

None at all. Most people who book with us have never stood on a board. We start on the beach, then get you riding whitewater the same session. Most first-timers are up and grinning on day one.

What should I bring?

Just swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and water. We provide the surfboard and a rash guard. Leave the rest, we have got the gear sorted.

Can kids learn? Is there an age limit?

Yes, kids are welcome and they often pick it up fast. We tailor the session to age and confidence. Message us with your child's age and we will set it up right.

Is it safe? I am a nervous beginner.

Safety comes first, every session. Viccy is a working lifeguard and reads the ocean instinctively. We keep ratios low, brief you properly, and stay close in the water. Nervous beginners are our favourite people to teach.

How much does a lesson cost and how do I book?

Pricing depends on group size, level and how many days you surf with us, so we confirm it when you enquire. The quickest way to book is WhatsApp. Send your dates and level and we will sort the rest.

Where are you and how do I get there?

Our home break is Batu Bolong Beach in Canggu, Bali, and we run lessons and guided surfs at spots across Bali. It is easy to reach us by scooter or taxi. We send the exact meeting point when you book.

When is the best time of year to surf in Bali?

Honestly, Bali works year round for learning. The dry season around April to October is classic, but we run beginner-friendly sessions all year and pick the right spot and tide for the day.

What happens if the weather or surf is bad?

We watch the conditions and the tide and time your session for the best window. If the ocean is not safe or workable, we reschedule you. No drama, we want you to have a good time.

Ready to catch your first wave?

Tell us your dates and level and we'll sort the rest. Sessions run around the tide, Bali.
